In Italy, the Oriani Mazzini School and the Zone 6 Municipality of Milan strive to promote participation of young students in decision making processes that affect their school, community and future opportunities.

What is going on at their school and what is important to them. What needs to change urgently or what could be improved? The pupils of Oriani Mazzini School and the Zone 6 Municipality conduct their own research and represent their fellow pupils in a proposal.
Community labs Milan
After the pupils have completed their research at school level, they will look at the bigger picture. How can they actively contribute to change in their local community, how do they make decisions in their work? They receive support from the local community. Together, they will set off in Milan to come up with a proposal to make the young people’s voices loud and clear.

Our school wants to partecipate in this project to strengthen the role that schools itself and the community play in promoting youth participation and civic education. It aims at providing students, teachers and families an educational pathway to acquire competencies and develop bottom-up proposals in order to improve services, spaces and goods they need and the community in which the school stands.
Team
The students were enthusiastic in accepting the EducAction challenge and they are now very committed to improve their participation in the decision-making process at school and to explore how contributing more to the community activities. They cannot wait to follow working on the project and demonstrate a specific interest in the communication and dissemination work.
Activities
Three young educators from ActionAid are organizing and facilitating the ‘School Labs’ together with the teachers and fostering play role, discussion and challenges. For The EducAction Project they are working in smaller groups, often thematic, in order to better stimulate every student talent.

School
Milan is the main city in northern Italy, capital of Lombardy, considered a leading global city with strengths in the fields of art, commerce, design, education, entertainment, fashion, finance and tourism. Zone 6 corresponds to the south-western zone of the city.
Team
The youth-education department of Zone 6 of the Municipality of Milanis supporting The EducAction Project. They and guide the young students on how a city works.
